Kevin Sheedy is one of the Australian Football League’s most enduring figures. A player and coach over five decades, Kevin has an unsurpassed record of involvement in 1000 games and 8 premierships.
Kevin was the quintessential self-made player, carving out a brilliant career with perseverance and thoughtfulness. At his peak, he was a supreme performer who epitomised the "kill or be killed" attitude of the Richmond club.
After retirement, he commenced a coaching career with Essendon that endured through several eras of the game. An innovator whose ideas shaped modern Australian football coaching, Kevin took it into the realms of science.
In 2007, he parted with the Essendon Football Club, ending 27 years as senior coach. In his last home game in charge, a mammoth crowd of 88,468 people turned out to farewell Sheedy and James Hird. Kevin received a standing ovation as he left the field for the last time.
In 2008, Kevin was inducted in to the AFL’s Hall of Fame, made a Legend of the Essendon Football Club, nominated as The Australian Thinker of the Year and was appointed to be an Ambassador for the AFL during their 150th anniversary celebrations.
